FAQ'S

Why do I need a Root Canal?

Physical Irritation- Deep decay or a very large filling. Regardless of the initial cause, the tooth pulp becomes irritated and an abscess (infection) occurs. Bacteria from your saliva grow within the tooth pulp, causing pressure and pain. In some cases your face may swell. Eventually the pulp dies, causing the bone around the tooth to be destroyed.

A root canal is also needed for restorative reasons. This is when the pulp is sound but the position of the tooth is not parallel to other teeth .

What is a veneer?

This is the aesthetic solution, for a variety of dental conditions such as spaces between teeth and broken, chipped or crooked teeth. Veneers are customized from porcelain, are a thin, semi-translucent shell, custom made to fit precisely over an existing tooth. They are permanently bonded, held in place by a special resin that adheres the back of the veneer to the front tooth, the finished result is extremely strong and durable. They are perfectly natural and are socially undetectable.

What involves the implant placement procedure?

The tooth structure has two main sections, the root and the crown. The root is the section of the tooth that is below the gumline. A dental implant acts as the restorative for this section of the tooth. The metal implant acts as an anchor in the jawbone. The first step of the procedure is surgical placement of the implant. Under regular dental anesthetic, the gum tissue is opened and the dentist places the implant into the jawbone. When this is achieved, the tissue is then sutured closed. There is not often significant discomfort with this procedure. This process can take from 1-3 hours depending on the number of implants being placed.

What are crowns and bridges?

A crown (some people call it a "cap") is used to restore a tooth that would otherwise be in danger of breaking. It covers and protects the entire tooth.

With old technology, dental crowns always needed to be made with a metal foundation. Today, we can make them out of pure porcelain, ceramic or aesthetic reinforced resins.

Bridges are used to replace missing teeth . It usually involves putting a crown on each tooth on either side of the missing tooth, and then a false tooth or teeth is suspended between the crowns.
